Indie/alternative rock duo Para Lia has signed with Berlin-based About Us Records for their third album, ‘In Clash With The Zeitgeist’, set to drop on August 25.
But before that, they’re teasing fans with their lead track ‘Sunchild’, a guitar-heavy indie rock number that showcases the band’s unique sound.
Comprised of René Methner and Cindy Methner, who were raised in the eastern part of a divided Germany, the band’s name Para Lia is Greek for “coast” or “beach”. Apparently, the duo has a thing for Greece, which is cool. And their music is influenced by ’90s alt-rock and ’80s darkwave. What a blend, right?
On ‘Sunchild’, Para Lia’s psychedelic side comes out in the lyrics. René Methner says it’s a “love letter to life,” which sounds pretty sappy, but hey, we won’t judge. Cindy Methner adds that the song is an “ode to not letting it get you down,” which is definitely a message we can all get behind.
Para Lia may not be mainstream, but they’ve managed to attract fans from around the world. Their first album, ‘Soap Bubble Dreams’, came out in 2019, followed by ‘Gone With The Flow’, which featured collaborations with artists from the USA, Canada, and the UK, as well as an interactive art exhibition with painter Louis Renzoni. Fancy!

‘In Clash With The Zeitgeist’ sees Para Lia expand from a duo to a six-member band, which is pretty impressive. The album was self-recorded and produced at their home studio, which probably saved them some cash. And it was mastered by Thommy Hein, who’s worked with Die Ärzte, Nina Hagen, and Udo Lindenberg. Not too shabby.
With ‘In Clash With The Zeitgeist’, Para Lia blends ’60s influences, psychedelic, garage rock, and early prog rock elements. The album’s artwork was designed by Greek artist Georgia Moschogianni, which adds to the band’s mysterious vibe.
‘Sunchild’ is available digitally on various music platforms as of April 28, including Apple Music, Spotify, and Bandcamp. And the full album will drop on August 25, both digitally and on vinyl. So get ready to rock out with Para Lia and their unique blend of sounds.
