Ruoska – A Post-Apocalyptic Comeback
Ruoska, a long-standing Finnish industrial metal band, released their new album couple of weeks ago.
Now they have released a music video to the title track of the album “Kade”. The video is directed by Henrik Mennander, and its story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the last survivors of humanity live under the constant threat of hydrogen bombs.
In the story, a mythical creature known as Kade looks down from a cliff at the devastated planet while bombs continue to strike its surface over and over again. The few remaining survivors hide underground whenever red warning lights appear, returning briefly to the surface when a green signal indicates that the danger has momentarily passed.
A passion for fantasy, science fiction, and post-apocalyptic themes forms the basis for the collaboration between the Ruoska singer Patrik Mennander and the music video director Henrik Mennander. They wanted to create a cinematic, or rather “short film” narrative, but since this is a kind of comeback for the band, it was also good to introduce them within the video.
Ruoska tours this spring and summer around Finland to celebrate the new album.

Smag På Dig Selv – Hypnotic And Immersive
The core ambition behind ‘This Is Why We Lost’, the highly anticipated second Smag På Dig Selv (SPDS) record, was to create music that can exist within a trance or club-oriented setting, while still carrying a strong melodic and narrative arc.
The Danish trio, comprised of two saxophonists and one drummer, have built an international reputation since 2018 as one of Scandinavia’s most intense and unconventional live acts, blending acoustic instrumentation with techno structures, punk energy, and references to 90s dance culture. Their performances have taken them from major festivals in Europe to SummerStage in Central Park, New York, as well as showcase platforms such as SXSW, The Great Escape, and Eurosonic.
Musically, Oliver Lauridsen (tenor sax), Thorbjørn Øllgaard (baritone and bass sax), and Albert Holberg (drums) are older now and are starting to take their music and their lives more seriously. Stripping away some of the self-ironic titles and musical choices that may have frequented their previous work, the album features the band’s moms, a nod to minimalist composer Kali Malone, and a Palestinian folk song. Different voices, different stories, all finding space together.
Still, there’s a red line running through everything. This time the band have tried to have things less in an arm’s length. The curiosity is the same, but it’s more focused now — more confident, more open. It feels like a step forward, without letting go of where they came from.
Featuring recent singles ‘Like A Word I Never Knew’, which Radio X’s John Kennedy has championed, the Dutch Gabber inspired ‘Vik’s Rawcore’, which features acclaimed Vibraphonist Viktoria Søndergaard and the acoustic techno of ‘Let’s Go!’,Smag På Dig Selv continue to challenge the conventions of instrumental music with ‘This Is Why We Lost’ — merging the openness of jazz with the physicality of electronic music and the raw intensity of underground club culture.
Hypnotic and immersive, the album, which was produced by TMI Tammi, is a melting pot of contradiction, which balances propulsion with vulnerability, inviting listeners into a slowly unfolding, melodic story. ‘This Is Why We Lost’ also takes aim at the recent rise in popularity of right-wing politicians both in the west, the east and in the global south.
“There are many reasons for this, but we think this is the time to consider how it could have happened and what the left wing has done or not done to make this happen”, the band said. “As much as the left wing is good at criticizing the right wing, we should also look inwards and think what we could have done to prevent this”, they further explain.
Clash Magazine said, “Music can be such a tonic, especially when it is this exhilarating. It is impossible not to be physically moved”, in a glowing 9/10 review of the album, whilst Notion Magazine said- “Balances hypnotic, trance-ready propulsion with melodic vulnerability, creating a slowly unfolding story that exists seamlessly between club energy and emotional depth.”
The album release will be supported by an extensive international tour throughout 2026, including dates across Europe and the UK. The live dates currently scheduled are as follows, with more to be announced shortly:

The Lemon Twigs – Hold On To Your Mind
The Lemon Twigs announce their new album, Look For Your Mind!, with a video for its lead single “I Just Can’t Get Over Losing You.”
Underneath its poppy exterior, Look For Your Mind!, due May 8th on Captured Tracks, contains an undercurrent of paranoia and suspicion. “I do think that now is a time of insanity,” admits Brian after pausing for thought. “You really have to hold onto your own mind if you don’t wanna lose it.”
New to this album is the inclusion of the live members Reza Matin (drums) and Danny Ayala (bass), as well as Eva Chambers of Tchotchke. With the D’Addario brothers, Brian and Michael, previously having handled everything in the studio themselves, this shows a newfound sense of freedom.
The ringing guitars of ‘I Just Can’t Over Losing You’ may create a familiarly pleasing mood, but when the bridge comes in at an unexpected time, the chorus is cut in half, and Brian and Eva’s harmonies build to its euphoric climax, the conventions for a pop song such as this are broken. The manner in which The Lemon Twigs surprise is a constant and testament to their vision and abilities. “Every time we try to write something that’s completely straightforward, we can’t help adding an element which comes out of left field. We always want to write a song we’ve never heard before,” chuckles Brian.

Alongside the album announcement, The Lemon Twigs are also announcing 2026 spring and summer tour that includes shows in the US, Canada, UK and Ireland. All dates below. All dates below.
The Lemon Twigs’ two previous Captured Tracks albums, A Dream Is All We Know (2024) and Everything Harmony (2023), certainly indicated something of a ground zero in their then five album career. “It was the beginning of making records that we would listen to ourselves,” says Michael D’Addario, the younger Twig brother, now aged 26. By the time of A Dream Is All We Know and the future Michael classic “My Golden Years”, The Lemon Twigs’ new era had truly begun.
The Lemon Twigs sixth studio album is the logical next step, but it’s also much more. With the skills they’ve acquired over the last two records, their many outside productions, and time on the road, they’ve imparted a vital but disciplined spirit. At the LP’s core, as always with the Lemon Twigs, is great songwriting.

CQ Wrestling – Everything Has Changed
CQ Wrestling are announcing their sophomore album Resistance for release on 22nd May, and sharing its lead single ‘Pacifico’.
The band will perform at SXSW this week, with spring UK headline tour dates also now on sale.
There’s a saying that simmers beneath the sonic assault of Resistance, the new album from CQ Wrestling. “Nothing changes if nothing changes,” recites Jake Mac, who knew of this idiom before 2024; before the loss that turned his and bandmate Charlie Woods’ worlds upside down; before the “year of complete mayhem, mess and chaos” that followed. From the outside looking in, the Brighton-based duo may have seemed on the top of the world. Then known as Chappaqua Wrestling, the exhilarating energy of their debut album Plus Ultra had seen the band lauded as future British music scene conquerors. The pair had a major label record deal to their name. Sweat dripped from the walls at headline show after headline show, in front of rapturous fans – and yet something felt amiss.
“We were selling out tours and people were loving the music, but honestly, we just felt f****** lost,” says Woods. Then tragedy struck. “It completely derailed us,” says Mac, recalling how the sudden death of his father – “a big part of the project” since its inception – sank them both into a period of grief and introspection. Amid the mourning emerged a desire to transform.
Resistance is an album forged in the embers of personal tragedy and hammered into shape by desire, resilience and resolve. Detailing a metamorphosis, new single ‘Pacifico’ draws a line in the sand for the band as they recover from a time of tremendous upheaval to find themselves following their own creative compass, with renewed vitality.
The band comments on the new single:
“As a band, we’ve been through every obstacle going; grief, covid destroying releases and tours, the stop button being forced on, probably everything you could imagine to see a band collapse. But we’ll never stop. ‘Pacifico’ is the song that epitomises this journey we’ve been on and what it means to us to have music and friendship as our own act of Resistance. It’s our song to find a path to change.”
Continuing about the album, they say:
“This album is a collection of songs above all about trying to find joy and hope in dark times. We are so proud of this body of work, and have fought incredibly hard to get it done. Over the past two years writing and recording this album, this band has almost broken up from the madness and impossible nature of being an artist in the modern world, the cost of living has plummeted to new lows, mental health issues are impossible, and more conflicts are starting, pulling more people into crisis. Most significantly for us personally was the devastating loss of Jake’s father Gavin, who was a champion and original manager of this band, all the way back when we first met in school.
Resistance is everywhere and it’s the simple explanation to how this album was made. We are so proud of this, and it’s a huge testament to keep the faith, keep the joy, and keep fighting through bleak times.”

Proud Mary formed in Manchester in 1998. Making their mark with a sensational debut album, they released ‘The Same Old Blues’ on Noel Gallagher’s Sour Mash records in the summer of 2001. While drawing influence from the canons of Dylan, The Rolling Stones and The Faces, singer Greg Griffin’s hair-on-end vocals and Paul Newsome’s accomplished songwriting offered a definitive style all their own.
Written in just ten days and produced by Gallagher with assistance of Gem Archer at Wheeler End Studios in London, the album was a hit with press and public alike. Since then, the band have recorded a steady stream of follow-up albums on both sides of the Atlantic including 2004’s ‘Love and Light’ (also recorded at Wheeler End and notably featuring Andy Rourke of The Smiths on bass), the California recorded albums ‘Ocean Park’ (2010) and ‘Pilgrim Fields’ (2013), plus sublime most recent effort ‘Songs From Catalina’ (2020), which was recorded over a 5 month period in the Santa Catalina area of Palma in Majorca.
Alongside headline tours and a notably phenomenal main stage appearance at Isle of Wight Festival in 2004, Proud Mary have also supported world class acts the likes of Oasis, Neil Young, The Stereophonics, Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, Ryan Adams, and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds over the course of their career to date.
Cementing their reputation as an unbeatable live act, over two decades and five albums on, the band will be back in the van and revisiting the songs that have made them a favourite among rock’n’roll musos ever since. Catch them live in 2026 and at an intimate venue near you.
Support at select dates will come from rising Manchester-based quintet Rosellas, whose blend of indie, guitar-music and psychedelia influences on EPs and singles such as “Born Under A Cloud” have seen them turn heads.
Whilst in Manchester, Crewe legends The Train Set will be appearing as special guests. Releasing their first 12” EP ‘She’s Gone’ in 1988, the classic track became single of the week in NME and the highest new entry in the Indie chart from the off. Touring with The Happy Mondays and James in the late 80s, they released a second 12” EP ‘Hold On’ in 1989. Fast forward to 2016 and the release of the ‘‘Never California’ compilation, the nucleus of the band: Clive Jones, Adam Halford and Dave Hassall decided to get back together. With guitarist Jason Woolley (ex Angels With Dirty Faces) and bassist Andy Pennance (ex Colours Out Of Time) joining the set-up, The Train Set have performed recently at the 2025 ShiiineOn Festival in Skegness and are even writing and recording new material at Wanderlust Sound Studios in Shropshire. Expect to hear new tracks and deep cuts at this special guest slot in 2026.
