Låpsley has today announced details of an intimate London date at Oslo on November 16th.
Her first headline show in the capital since the pandemic – also her first previewing upcoming album, Cautionary Tales Of Youth – tickets are on general sale now and available here.
Cautionary Tales Of Youth was announced for a January 20th release recently alongside new single ‘Dial Two Seven’: showcasing Låpsley’s incredibly nuanced mix of sounds – from Afrobeats and Latin to electronica and R&B – as well as the journeys undertaken (both physical, and emotional) to arrive where she is today. Dropping alongside a joyful video shot in South Africa, ‘Dial Two Seven’ follows the recent track ’32 Floors’, with more from Låpsley soon…
After an explosive rise to fame as a teenager, when she first uploaded her minimal, self-produced electronica to SoundCloud, Merseyside-hailing Holly Fletcher’s debut album ‘Long Way Home’ was released to critical acclaim on XL in 2016. Singles ‘Hurt Me’ and ‘Falling Short’ confirmed her as one of the most exciting new talents, whilst DJ Koze’s disco edit of ‘Operator’ produced an instant dancefloor classic. Despite releasing early in the pandemic, second album Through Water marked Låpsley’s maturation from adolescence, and the emotional shift from bedroom producer to a more confident, conscious artist. Having also spent a lot of time writing for others during lockdown, Holly recently signed a new publishing deal and received her first songwriting plaque for a song that went platinum (‘Out Out’), all the while working on her own most accomplished album to date…
Produced in collaboration with Jessy Lanza, Paul White, Greg Abrahams and regular collaborator Joe Brown as well as a feature from South African songstress Msaki, Låpsley’s third album is an intimate but universal exploration of those Cautionary Tales that – eventually – may also prove the making of you. Conjuring a lucid sense of place – from her East London home to that time spent in South Africa – the Låpsley of 2022 is testament to how much more comfortable Holly is in her skin: today, she also helps manage the playroom at queer BDSM-leaning club night Crossbreed. As eclectic as it is unguarded, the album is a form of therapy in the truest sense: a talking cure and a hauntingly beautiful confession, resulting in a thrilling yet soulful work of love, loss and growth.
