“You only love me on the weekend, what kind of movies are you making?” coos frontman Will Irvine, on what stands as one of DAYTIME TV’s most infectious, pop-preened choruses to date.
Going down a storm while opening-up for Two Door Cinema Club’s huge shows and proving a smash with the hometown crowd at TRNSMT recently, the Scottish four piece are pleased to release the studio version of: “Hush”. The single arrives as the band prepare for their much-postponed and humorously titled “The Tour That Will Absolutely Happen” Tour, which takes place throughout November 2021.
Emblazoning their gritty alt-rock sound with a new-found pop sheen, in “Hush” the band deliver a track that finds them embracing evolution and preparing for take-off.
Inspired by a typically illuminating exepose by the legendary Louis Theroux, the song finds DAYTIME TV as flies-on-the-wall observing a troubled relationship hitting new levels of turmoil. As frontman Will Irvine explains:
“So I was sat in one night watching a Louis Theroux documentary about the porn industry in America. Gotta love Louis. It was kind of a spotlight following people in that world and what their day to day lives are like. I was totally hooked in by this one couple, the husband of which worked a 9-5 office job while the wife was building a successful career in porn…. They were being interviewed separately about their relationship and how they cope with it all. The guy said something along the lines of “she’s so busy going to different shoots most days, it’s like she can only love me on the weekend.” Quotes like that are like gifts from above to us songwriters and quickly inspired the chorus line “you only love me on the weekend”. I tried to put myself in this guy’s shoes and write from his perspective.”
While viewers might have to wait a while for a follow-up doc from Theroux, DAYTIME TV can confirm concretely that their debut album: ‘Nothing’s On But Everyone’s Watching’ will be arriving on 25 February 2022, via the Allotment label.
