THE SURGE ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE “RICH GIRL” – A SHARP, RIFF-DRIVEN COMMENTARY ON THE AGE OF INFLUENCE
Rising post-punk/alt-rock outfit The Surge are set to release their new single with a new line-up, “Rich Girl,” is a bold and incisive look at the modern influencer era.
The track marks the band’s first single since 2023 ahead of their highly anticipated second album, slated for release in 2026.
Blending the band’s signature mix of post-punk energy, indie edge, alt-rock grit and old-school punk urgency, “Rich Girl” takes aim at the curated façades and manufactured personas saturating today’s social media landscape.
“‘Rich Girl’ is a commentary on influencers — the zoo of humankind,” the band explains. “So many people pretend to be something they’re not: the poor shown as rich, the boring painted as interesting, the self-obsessed masquerading as charitable. We don’t always see through it at first… but we can learn to. This song is about recognising the illusion — and choosing to be better.”
Driven by powerful vocals and The Surge’s trademark energetic riffs, “Rich Girl” delivers a compelling, song-centered punch built for live stages and festival fields.
The track has been picked up by NBQ Records and appears on their ‘Sampler 2’ set for release on 21st November 2025.
The Surge have spent the last year writing and recording material for their forthcoming second album — the follow-up to 2023’s well-received Amped. Their momentum continues to build: in 2024, the band earned a nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist at the Original Music Awards (OMA).
Onstage, The Surge have secured support slots with an impressive roster of alternative and punk icons, including:
- The Vapors (new wave legends)
- The Members (punk originators)
- Porno Massacre (Brazilian punk antagonists)
- Mr Irish Bastard (Germany’s answer to classic-era Pogues)
Their booking history spans venues in Southampton, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Brighton, Swansea, and multiple London stages. Festival appearances have included Bestival, Music in the City, The Beggars Fair, Fazza Fest, NBQ Fest, and Barnstomper Festival in Dorset.
The band’s seasoned members have deep roots in the UK music scene, with past performances alongside Blur, The Buzzcocks, Echo & The Bunnymen, and sets at Glastonbury Festival.
