Within their latest thirteen-song LP release, ‘Bite! Blood! Repeat!’, The Balboas, are spanning six different cities across the United States and tearing punk-rock, rockabilly and garage rock into flesh.
The record is a swirling vortex of sharp teeth and bad intention, laced with sex, mysticism, and mayhem – and another notch in the belt of The Balboa’s prolific discography.
“When you see piranhas in action you think chaos, but piranhas are extremely organized and efficient, allowing them to strip a carcass to the bone and distribute food in seconds. It’s a dynamic The Balboas are familiar with.” – explains Richard Griffith, the co-founder of The Balboas and the Professor of Psychology of The University of Florida. “When you first drop the needle on a Balboas record, all you hear is chaos. But, the Balboas are far from random when it comes to making a record, they are methodical as f*ck”. ‘Bite! Blood! Repeat!’ is a product of The Balboas time tested process. The current title isn’t just wordplay from song lyrics, it signifies the way The Balboas go about their business. The result of this hard work with collaborators is a thirteen song LP featuring contributions from Mike Watt(Minutemen), Paul Roessler(Screamers, 45 Grave), Eddie Spaghetti(Supersuckers), and Kitten Kuroi(Billy Idol).
One of the most timely collaborations is with The 5.6.7.8.s of the Tarantino film Kill Bill. They team up with The Balboas on a song about the movie’s psychotic teenage bodyguard, Go Go Yubari. The song is released to coincide with Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair – the full 4 hour theatrical release out in December. “We managed bring quite the curveball of raw energy that the music scene really is lacking. Of course, I’d lay it down on the skins, guitar, whatever for them. I feel right at home.” – explains Jimmy Dale, the Son of Dick Dale.
Discussing today’s drop, the heartshaking ‘Florida Man’, Richard Griffith comments: “Florida Man is a greasy, distorted, journey through the stereotype of the crazy lifestyle of the sunshine state. The song features The Balboas in one of their most depraved spells, fully immersed in a southern methamphetamine moment. It captures all the anger of a failed attempt to join the ranks of the mythical Florida Man, and features Dusty Watson on his first washboard recording”.
‘Bite! Blood! Repeat!’ is a blood-soaked swarm of sonic seduction. This tenacity permeates their music, as The Balboas fearlessly navigate unexplored territory, staying true to their punk roots while carving out their unique surf sound. Digital-only release is coming out this December 5. Pre-order from now on here.
