Born during the isolation of the pandemic, Svjetlost began as a deeply personal creative outlet for Jamie Kobić, best known as the guitarist and vocalist of Dutch doom outfit Gavran.
What started as a desire to explore songwriting through guitar gradually evolved into The Forever Silent, a debut album that blends crushing doom and stoner metal with the rich emotional heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Initially inspired by the infectious heaviness of bands such as Sleep, High on Fire, and OM, the project soon found its true identity through an unexpected source: Sevdah, the traditional folk music of Bosnia. Drawn to its melancholic atmosphere and expressive chord progressions, Svjetlost reimagines those elements through the lens of heavy, riff-driven music, creating a sound that feels both ancient and deeply personal.

The album’s themes are equally rooted in the artist’s Bosnian heritage. Songs such as Lands of Suffering explore the scars left by war and division, while The Golden Lilies pays tribute to the historic city of Mostar, a place of both remarkable beauty and painful history. Elsewhere, Between the Peaks draws from a family story spanning two world wars, honoring ancestors whose lives were forever shaped by conflict and loss.
Recorded by Freek van Rooyen (Gavran), mixed by Marius Prins (Throwing Bricks), mastered by Alan Douches, and featuring artwork by Tinus Kardolus, The Forever Silent is a powerful debut that transforms personal history into something universal.
By combining the hypnotic power of doom metal with the emotional depth of Bosnian musical traditions, Svjetlost delivers an album that is both intimate and expansive, a meditation on memory, identity, loss, and resilience.
