New York band Joudy (pronounced howdy) announce the upcoming release of their new album Permanent Maintenance (out July 24 via Trash Casual).
A hot-blooded, love-torn record created to get something off their chests, Joudy are making some of the heaviest music of their careers.
Taking their album title from a mechanic shop of the same name, there is a throughline of machine-made elements across the record. Frontman Diego Ramirez recognized he had existed in survival mode for so long, this album was the first time he stopped to process. Mirrored by a political climate that banks on our constant burnout, Permanent Maintenance is a record of personal stories that reach across an entire society — Pre-save.
Today also sees the release of the new single “Nail.” Driving and unrelenting, the song is punctuated with a period. Joudy opens this new chapter making demands and not asking politely — Stream.
“‘Nail’ captures the breaking point where self-blame turns into self-protection,” shares Ramirez “Punchy drums, fuzzy bass, razor-sharp guitars, and urgent vocals turn vulnerability into defiance. A raw, cathartic anthem for listeners navigating burnout and personal reclamation.”
Joudy is a trio of Venezuelan emigres originally formed in San Cristobal in the mid-2010s. Fleeing the country due to the intense political climate, they spent time in South America before finding a new home in New York City. Never did the band think they would find themselves once again occupying the same city as Nicolás Maduro.
Directed by Gabriel Duque, today’s official video is chaotic and urgent. The band is quickly fleeing the scene of their crimes with flashes back to what they have left behind — Watch. And because one video isn’t enough, Joudy also shares a Live and Loud video of “Nail” taken from a show at Sleepwalk in Brooklyn earlier this year. Joined by Zach Ellis of Dead Tooth, the whole room is an all out release for everyone there — Watch.
This March, Joudy will be making their way to SXSW in Austin, Texas. Stay tuned for a full list of their showcase performances. And on March 22, they will return to New York for a show at The Meadows with their longtime friends from Venezuela, Zeta, who are on their 10-year anniversary tour in the US.
